Nest thermostat not seeing c wire after power failure

After power failure we lost our c wire being “found” from the nest thermostat.

this has happened in the past and we found if we remove the batteries for half hour and replace it fixes itself.

this time, not so much. We have factory reset the thermostat and now it’s stuck in this loop and cannot even function as a thermostat… it’s 5 degrees outside today and I really don’t want to have to go buy a new thermostat

Hi Dave-s,

I understand this is frustrating, especially with the cold weather. But don't worry help is here. By using this article you can find a couple of things to try and get your Nest thermostat working again without buying a new one.

Keep me posted.

Ivan

Thank you for the suggestion Ivan, I had already tried many of the trouble shooting options. What I found today was after having the thermostat sit with batteries out of it for 36 hours it was able to install today without issue. So for some reason it faults on a c wire but after I put it in time out to let to think about what it has done it smartens up and begins to tow the company line again. All thermostats are back active along with all 8 cameras so… yay my house likes nest again.

Hi Dave-s,

I'm glad to hear you were able to get your Nest thermostat working again! That's fantastic news, especially with the cold weather. It's interesting to learn that a longer battery removal period seemed to be the solution in this case. While we typically recommend a 30-minute removal, it's valuable to know this might work for others in similar situations.

Have a great day!

Regards,

Ivan
