Nest thermostat only blows heat on emergency

Hello,

I have a zone system that is separated by dampers. On floor 1 i have the learning thermostat  and that works fine

On floor 2 I have the regular nest thermostat  and it only blows heat when is on emergency  heat. When is on regular heat only the fan is blowing  with no heat.

Any ideas?

Hello Bearpaw123,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

Troubleshooting heating issues with a Nest Thermostat can be a bit complex, but let's try to identify potential solutions for the problem described in your post.

  1. Ensure that the Nest Thermostat on the 2nd floor is compatible with your heating system. It's possible that there may be compatibility issues causing the heat to not function as expected.
    1. Share with us your HVAC system's make and model and what type it is.
  2. Verify that the thermostat on the second floor is wired correctly. Ensure that the wires are securely connected to the correct terminals on the thermostat.
    1. Miswiring can lead to issues with the heating function. You can post a picture of your old thermostat and Nest Thermostat's wiring setup so we have visuals of its configuration.
  3. Make sure that your Nest Thermostat's firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes, software updates can address bugs or compatibility issues.
  4. Since you have a zone system with dampers, confirm that the dampers on the 2nd floor are open when the regular heat is on. Closed dampers can prevent heat from reaching the desired areas, resulting in only the fan running.
  5. The fact that heat is working in emergency mode but not in regular mode may indicate a problem with the primary heating source. It's worth having a professional HVAC technician inspect the heating system to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

Keep me posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Mark
