Nest thermostat only lasted for 3+ years and is dead.

Think twice before you buy!  After three years plus 9 month use, the Nest learning thermostat is dead based on Google tech person. The battery does not hold any power and I need to replace with  a new one. A $200 purchase only lasted 3+ years? Why am I bothering to replace with Nest? Amazon and Honeywell provide smart thermostats for under $100.
