Nest thermostat reconnect

Snek

I cannot remember my 3rd generation learning thermostat Wi-Fi password and the  “forgot password” emails are not reaching me.
Would trashing the technicalinfo.PLIST file on a laptop allow me to create a Wi-Fi password on the thermostat again?

Hello Snek,

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd love to know more about this.

To clarify, are you having issues connecting your thermostat to your Wi-Fi because you forgot its password? If so, you can contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to get your Wi-Fi password so you can reconnect it manually without having it reset. Also, for account-related issues, please check out this article and let me know how it goes.

I'll look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey there,

I'm checking back in — how's it going? Have you had a chance getting your Wi-Fi password? Let us know if you need more help.

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark
I ended up trying every password I ever used in the last 10 years until I finally got one. It shouldn’t be this time consuming!

Hi Mark

ISP doesn’t keep any of the customer’s passwords. 😞

Hi Mark

i don’t think ISPs keep passwords of their customers…

Hi Snek,

I understand, and I'm sorry for the confusion. To clarify, are we referring to your Wi-Fi password or your email account's password for your Nest?

Thanks,

Mark

Hey there,

Thanks for clarifying, Snek. It's best to contact your ISP first to access your router settings and retrieve your Wi-Fi password if you don't have any knowledge of accessing it. Once the password is ready, try reconnecting your thermostat back to your Wi-Fi network.

Keep me posted on how it goes.

Regards,

Mark

Hello Snek,

I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. Please save your Wi-Fi password in your notes for future reference, so whenever you need it, you know where to find it. If there’s anything else I can help you with, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll lock this thread in 24 hours.

Thanks,

Mark
