Nest thermostat runs the furnace randomly for 1s

Hi there,

I've been trying to track down what I'm quite sure is a software bug. We find our furnace turning on at random times, and then a second later turning off. I downloaded my thermostat data from takeout.google.com and it shows several heating events that match up to what's happening. I worked with support, and we completely disabled scheduling and auto away and pretty much every other smart feature, yet it still does this.

So far this month I have about 60 occurances of events with less than a 30s duration. Sometimes these events repeat back to back. I've given up on support, as I don't believe they are trained to diagnose software issues this deep.

This bug is very annoying as it creates wear and tear on the equipment, as well as wakes up light sleepers in the house.

Hi mkotyk,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Nest Thermostat. I'd love to know more about this and I have a few questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • How is your Nest Thermostat wired?
  • What is the power reading of your Nest Thermostat? You can find this information by going to Settings > Technical Info > Power.

Looking forward to your resplonse.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward,

I have a Nest Learning Thermostat

  • Model "Display-3.6"
  • Software ver 6.2-27
  • Battery is at 3.931v
  • Voc: 34.66V
  • Vin: 34.66V
  • lin: 200mA

I'm about 90% sure this isn't a wiring, electrical or mechanical issue since I have logs of the thermostat calling for heat in 1s durations.

Like I mentioned, I've already talked with regular support (Case #8-6218000033712) and we tried disabling all the smart features, rebooting, etc and it still persists.

Would you be able to esclate this to a developer please? I'd be happy to provide any other logs to help debug.
