Nest thermostat switches on its own

Plumbtwit

I have a nest thermostat fitted in a property which I don’t start at much at the moment. Despite being in eco mode, and away is enabled, and the temperature set to 9°C it keeps on bringing itself on and easing the temperature according the the schedule. This looks like a software problem but I need to know how to stop this happening. It’s causing some eye watering bills with an electric boiler running when it’s not needed. Really losing my faith in nest as an installer now.

Hi Plumbtwit,

Yikes! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Nest Thermostat. Try these:

  1. Make sure that the schedule settings on your Nest Thermostat are configured correctly. Double-check the temperature settings for each time period to ensure they align with your preferences.
  2. Confirm that the Eco mode and Away settings are properly enabled. These settings are designed to conserve energy by adjusting the temperature when you're not at home. Ensure that the temperature is set to the desired level in these modes.
  3. Ensure that your Nest Thermostat has the latest software version installed. You can do this by going to the Nest app or website and checking for any available updates. Updating the software can often resolve software-related issues and improve the thermostat's performance.
  4. If the issue persists, you can try performing a factory reset on your Nest Thermostat. This will reset all settings to their default values, so you'll need to reconfigure it afterward. To perform a factory reset, go to the thermostat's settings menu and look for the reset option.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

When I changed the schedule or deleted the schedule, the old settings kept reappearing. It was the app. I completely uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now it’s working fine.

I install lots of these for clients and given the number of failures I encounter (mostly communication / heatlink failures), I think the next fault will sadly result in me uninstalling the hardware and fitting some alternative. It’s such a shame as they are a really nice thermostat but just too unreliable.
