Nest thermostat wiring

I have separate heating and cooling systems with Rc and Rh wires. My Nest thermostat has only one terminal for an R wire. Which wire should I connect to the r terminal in my nest thermostat? Should I connect the Rc or Rh wire? As best as I can tell, either one should work but none of the instructions address this case.

The system you are describing is only compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat, 3rd Gen.
