Nest thermostat with heat pump only heats if turned below room temperature and then back up to desir

We have a ducted heat pump and a nest thermostat it seems as if all the wires are correctly configured because it can heat and cool the house.

However, we have noticed that when heating it often starts the compressor and heats for a bit, then just blows air continuously as the air cools until we turn the temperature below room temperature and then wait and then turn it back up. At that point the compressor will start again and heat will come out of the vents.

This will sometimes be hours later when it's been sitting on "reaching 67C in 40 minutes" forever. Turn it down and then back up so that the fan stops and restarts will then cause the heat to come back on.

Hello @willismonroe!

Thanks for bringing your concern to our attention and posting it in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience your Nest thermostat may be causing.

I understand that you are having issues with changing the temperature, but no worries; let me help you with that.

Before trying any troubleshooting, can you share the following information:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • What other strange symptoms have you experienced since the problem started?
  • Are there any error messages? If so, what are they exactly?
  • Do you notice any intervals or specific patterns between these strange behaviors?
  • Are you enrolled in the “Rush Hours” program?

Once I have this information, we can gather useful information to make your device work.

Thanks in advance,

Catheryn
