Nest thermostat won't turn on

JessiePerry77

After charging our thermostat, we attached it to the base and it keeps asking us to remove and re attach. After that didn't work we reset it but pressing it for ten seconds and releasing then turning it back on. Still reads the same error. Remove and reattach. This is not the first time we've recharged it so don't understand what the issue could be now. Someone please help 😫

Hi JessiePerry77,

We're sorry for the trouble this may have caused you — let's see what's going on.

A few questions: did you notice any wire reports or message codes on your thermostat prior to the problem? What type of Nest thermostat do you have? Here's your reference. Also, please give these steps a try:

  • Check that the wires lie flat on the base. Otherwise, the wires may be pushing the thermostat away from the base, causing the error message.
  • Use a screwdriver to loosen the screws on the base by a half or quarter of a (counter clockwise) turn. This should help if the base is screwed too tightly to the wall.
  • Make sure that the display is properly seated.
  • Inspect the 20-pin connector for any visible damage. Check both the male and female ends of the base and display.
  • Reseat the wires.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Mark
