Nest thermostat wont charge

Hi, I have a problem with my Nest thermostat (I think it's the 2nd Gen but nor sure - it's the learning one!).

It has worked perfectly for a number of years and has been kept on its stand and plugged into a USB C charging cable. A few days ago I noticed it wouldn't turn on and I keep getting the message 'Attach to base'. I've tried charging it with other cables in different plug sockets but nothing will work and ot doesn't show a blinking orange light to show it is charging.

When I remove the cable it momentarily switches on (I get as far as having the little house symbol and a green flashing light) before it tells me it needs to switch off to save the battery?

I'm at a complete loss as to how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated

@Wellsie1, this sounds like the lithium ion battery built into the display is no longer accepting a charge. When we see this particular problem, we normally have to tell the customer that it’s time to replace that with a newer model.
