Why cant i get my upstairs system to heat up with activating the downstairs system?

I want my upstairs system to come on before my downstairs system To be warm before I get up).  However I can only get the upstairs system to work when the downstairs is already activated and running.

Is this something that can be done, if so how?

@Stickymint

How many thermostats do you have?

I have two thermostats, one for the downstairs system and a separate one for the upstairs system.

Hi @Stickymint,

Thanks for posting in the Community! Sorry to hear that your upstairs system can’t be turned off before your downstairs one. No worries, help is here! Please provide me with the following information:

  1. Have you tried setting a temperature schedule to make your upstairs system turn on before the downstairs one?
  2. Are both thermostats wired in the same way?
  3. Does the upstairs system only activate if the downstairs system is on? Or can it be active independently?

Keep me posted.

@Patrick_Caezza, thanks for your help!

Regards,

Axel.

  1. Have you tried setting a temperature schedule to make your upstairs system turn on before the downstairs one? Yes,but it doesn't kick in until the downstairs fires up
  2. Are both thermostats wired in the same way? As far as I am aware they are.
  3. Does the upstairs system only activate if the downstairs system is on? Or can it be active independently? Correct it is only working, if the downstairs is on -this is my problem!

Hi Stickymint,

Thanks for the information provided! I'd like to take a closer look at the wiring for both thermostats to ensure that your upstairs thermostat is receiving adequate power, especially when the downstairs thermostat is in use.

Could you please share a photo of the wiring configurations for both thermostats?

Keep me updated.

Regards,

Axel.

Do you have one unit controlled by two thermostats or two separate units each controlled by their thermostat?
