Nest thermostat

$700 in repairs.  Latest nest thermostat cost me in repairs I  connected  according to instructions with special adapter with C wire connection, within 1 hour fried my circuit board on furnace.  I been  usually 1st generation with 2 wire connection for  several years with no problem, my plumber told me I was the third person this happened to.

Probably connected the adapter wrong.

I always tell people to just run a new thermostat cable and have a real C wire but they never listen to me.

They say they cant run a new wire but someone ran the wire that is there now LOL.

Good chance the installation was done wrong. Why would you ask a plumber?

You said you only used two wires with a 1st gen. Two-wire-only systems can be a pain if you don't know what you are doing setting them up.
