Nest thermostat

Zaidh
Community Member

I have the third generation nest. I set the temperature to 70. Ac kicks in, works well for a few hours then turns off and the inside temperature is 80. It is set to cool and the target temperature is 70. The hvac was replaced as we thought that was the issue, but it’s still not reaching the target/set temp. It used to work beautifully for the past few months and now all of a sudden it’s not. Please help.

Hello, have you checked your wiring setup in the google home app, under the thermostat device, settings, and in thermostat settings Thermostat?  Scroll down to Wiring, and verify wiring configuration.  Below is how I have mine setup.  When I setup thermostat it was not working well because my OB or G wiring was not setup.  Until I set that up, and made sure wiring matched on physical thermostat my system did not work correctly.

This may not be the issue, but worth a shot.

Hi folks,

I appreciate your input, @mchavez7476

@Zaidh, thanks for reaching out to us, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. I want to check if you are still in need of any help. If so, please answer the following:

  1. Where are you located? From North America or Europe?
  2. Did you try using the Help Center or troubleshooter before contacting support? If so, which steps have you tried already?
  3. When did cooling last work?
  4. Is it a newly installed thermostat?
  5. What type of system do you have? (Heat Pump or conventional type)
  6. Did you  turn off the power to your HVAC system?
    • Are the breakers turned on?
    • Did you recently experience a brownout or blackout?
    • Did you have any construction or maintenance work done on your home?
  7. Do you have a photo of your old thermostat? Make sure your Nest Thermostat is wired correctly and verify that the display is receiving power.
  8. Did your utility company install a box on your HVAC system that turns the system off during high demand (peak) times to save energy?

Gather the thermostat's power readings of Battery, VOC, VIN and lIN by going to its Settings > Technical Info > Power. Also, please help us with a photo of how are the thermostat wires connected to your Nest Learning Thermostat base.

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Zoe

Hi Jayaraj214,

Thanks for the post, and I'm sorry to hear that you are having the same situation with your Nest Thermostat; that is not the experience we want you to have. Could you also answer the questions I asked above so I can take a closer look at what is going on with your Nest Thermostat?

Regards,

Zoe
