Hi I need help with switching my trane thermostat to a nest 3 gen thermostat. I'm just confused on some of the wiring. Coming out of the wall is 6 wires. Red white blue brown yellow and green. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, @Fordfanatics1

Thank you so much for posting in the community and sharing pictures of your thermostats. I'm happy to assist you.

Your thermostat has the necessary wires (W1, W2, Y, R, B, G) to be compatible with a Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd generation). While the B wire typically connects to the O/B terminal on the Nest, it's possible it's actually a common (C) wire instead and should be connected to the C terminal.

To determine if your B wire is a common wire (C wire), refer to this article: How to Tell if a B wire is Really a Common or C wire.

If a common wire is inserted into any connector other than C on your Nest thermostat, you risk blowing a fuse on your HVAC system or damaging the thermostat. If you're unsure about the type of wire you have, it's strongly recommended that you contact a Nest Pro technician

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

Ana
