Nest thermostat

I have a heat pump. When calling for cooling my o wire is not energized so my reversing valve isn’t activated so it stays in heating.

Hi Bob93,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that when it's cooling, your wire isn't energized, which means your reversing valve isn't activated, and therefore it stays in heating. Help is here!

To help me provide you with accurate troubleshooting steps, I'd like to gather the following information:

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • When did the issue start?
  • Is this a new installation?
  • Could you share a photo of the wiring installation on the Nest thermostat? It would help us understand the inconvenience better.
  • What troubleshooting have you done so far?
  • When you turn on the heating, do you experience cooling?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Rusell.

I have a Nest 3rd gen

I installed the nest this winter when remodeling the front room. When going through it at installation I thought the AC came on correctly. But the other day when I did turn the AC on for the first time the AC didn’t come on it stayed in heat. After looking into it, my orange wire outside didn’t have 24 volts so my reversing valve isn’t energized.

Can’t figure out how to post a picture.

Hi Bob93,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate the picture you provided, and it looks properly connected. However, since you mentioned that the orange wire at the OB terminal doesn't have proper voltage to work, I strongly recommend having a Nest Pro technicians inspect your system to ensure its safety and optimal performance.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Rusell.

@Bob93

The wiring doesn't look correct.

If you have it, can you post a picture of the original thermostat's wiring?
