Nest turns on heat when it should not

Gootto
Community Member

Our regular Nest (not learning version) turns hear on in the middle of the night when it should not. I verified correct schedules

Example:

"Sleep" mode set to 55

Nest shows indoor temp (only one sensor, ie in the thermostat) is 61

Nest turns on for a few minutes every hour and screen shows "Heating, 55, under 10 minutes, Indoor 67"

Hi Gootto,

Thanks for reaching out. I'd love to know more about it:

  • Do you notice some messages or code on your Nest Thermostat or in the Google Home app?
  • When did the issue first occur?
  • Aside from the Quick Schedule, do you also have a manual schedule created?

I'll look forward to your response.

Best,

Jenelyn

Dear Jenelyn
Thank you very much for trying to help me.

I never got any error or other messages on the Nest or Google Home app.
Basically the Nest would turn on the heat as if it was aiming for my Eco setting even tho the time period was sleep setting

I used
Sleep 55
Eco 62
Heat 68

I double checked that my schedule was correct and all 7 days had same schedule.

I checked app and thermostat when the heat kicked in the middle of the night (during "sleep" mode) and typically found:

1. Thermostat reported "heating"
2. Set for 55
3. Current temp 61

Not set for any preheating

The Nest basically seemed to act as if it was still aiming for the Eco setting instead of sleep mode

I can only find one place in the app to set a schedule, ie unaware of any quick schedules

For now I basically set eco and sleep both to 55. So I can no longer keep the house automatically at 62 during the day, but at least we don't get woken (by the noisy furnace) in the middle of the night

Thanks for any leads you may have for me
