Nest w/ Heat Pump stops heating after a few hours of time & req's stop/restart of heat

I installed this thermostat during the summer and it ran well with air conditioning.  No issues.

Last week I started to see in colder weather that when heat was set to 70 degrees it was working but after a few hours my heat pump was running with no air was blowing in the house.  I went to check the furnace but it was completely off.  I was getting an alert by Nest to change my filter so I turned off the heat, replaced the filter, turned it back on and then heating began.

Fast forward a day or two later and woke up in the morning to my house at 62 degrees.  Again, no heat coming from the vents but could hear the heat pump still running.  Turned the heat off at the thermostat (pump stopped), waited a couple of minutes, turned it back to 70 degrees and air began coming through the vents again.

This continues to be the pattern over the last week.  Never had this issue with my old 6yr old Ecobee which I luckily still have.

Can anyone provide suggestions please?

Hi NeedHeatPlz,

Thanks for bringing this up here in the Google Nest community. Let's look deeper into this. Are you getting any kind of error message on the Nest Thermostat display? The Nest Thermostat is just a switch for your heat pump to turn on or off. Try to check if all the wires are properly connected to the Nest Thermostat.

For safety reasons, turn off the HVAC system's power at the fuse box or system switch, before you remove and reattach the wire, if necessary.

Let us know if that helps.

Best,

Renz
