New Google Nest Learning Thermostat heating problem

We have had a new boiler installed and had issues with the existing thermostat and heat link which the electrician told us was "faulty" so we have purchased a brand new one and had a different qualified electrician install.

Problem we now have is that the room temperature is 18 C and to get the heating to come on I have to turn the dial down below the room temperature as opposed to above to tell it what I want the room to be.  Then to turn it off I have to move the dial above the room temp indicated.  IE everything is working in reverse.

Does this indicate the heat link is wired incorrectly?

That would probably be best. The heating side, and hot water, has 3 terminals numbered 1 - 2 - 3.

Power is provided by a bridge from live or a separate live wire into terminal 2. When the heating is off, the relay inside will close a connection between 2 and 1, so we would see 1 empty. When heating is activated from the display, the relay would move and close the connection between 2 and 3, in 3 we would have the wire going to the system for a call for heat.

Just so you have it on hand here is the Installation guide. It has some diagrams and examples on how the installation should be done on different systems. The installer can also try and contact us live over the phone if needed, here is our Contact page. My colleagues can try and assist with the wiring.

Thanks for reaching out to us here @Gary412 . I am sorry to hear you are facing difficulties with your thermostat and I would be happy to try and assist.

Based on your description I would say the thermostat was installed incorrectly. If you are comfortable in doing so you can take the cover of the Heat Link and grab a picture of the wiring so I can have a look. Do make sure that if you are able to do so, first cut the power to the Heat Link just to be safe.

Hi Alex - thanks for reaching out. I can't easily get ti the cover to take it off but I do agree with you regarding the incorrect installation as it was working fine prior to the new boiler installation.  I've hopefully got someone coming in to look at it early tomorrow but will revert back if not.
