New install, Nest is blinking green/orange with a blank screen.

Hello, just plugged my Nest in for the first time on a new install. The wiring was pretty simple and I have checked it a few times to make sure it’s correct. The Nest unit powers up fine, but then goes blank. A green to orange light is blinking at the top. I believe that this is likely due to it needing to be charged as I just unboxed it, but I saw a few other threads that seems to indicate that this was a hardware issue.

Any confirmation on this?

I believe that it’s a third gen.

Did you get to the point where it asked for the wifi info to connect to the internet?

That light usually means it is downloading updates from internet and rebooting.

I just installed the same one mine did that when installing update. My light is dead center on the top. Did you put the blue level bubble on the top?

Thanks, I think I’m good now. Looks like another user, above, is having a similar issue.

Hey MitchellHouse,

Awesome — glad to hear that your issue is fixed. It looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread shortly unless I can help out with anything else.

Best,
Mel

After reading more about it. I plugged it into the USB charging port and plugged it into a wall. The power wire for the unit is a lower amperage than a wall outlet, so it seemed to be a charging issue more than a device issue. Once I charged it for an hour or so, connected it back the wall, it updated some more and finally came on without issue. This was over a week ago and it’s still good.
