First of all, my old phone can connect to my thermostat through the app. I can connect to the thermostat through Google Home on the new phone. I can connect to the thermostat through a web browser on the new phone. I have no hardware issues with the thermostat. The problem I have is with the Nest app.
I got a new Android phone, I reinstalled the Nest app. Every time I open the app, I have to "Sign in with Google". It takes me to the accounts.google.com site to "Choose an account to continue to Nest". I choose the account.
Then I get "Nest wants access to your Google Account", and it shows the permissions that Nest is asking for "See and use data about your home from the Google Home app (required)". I click "Allow".
Then the browser thinks for about 30 seconds, and eventually loads google.com in the browser, and does nothing else.
Again, I know my google account is connected to Nest because the app on my old phone works, and I use the google account to connect through a web interface, and my thermostat is available in Google Home. I have reinstalled the app a few times. I would use Google Home to control the thermostat, but it doesn't seem to allow me to set schedules with the thermostat like the Nest app does.

I think the issue is that I was not using Chrome as the default browser. I temporarily changed Chrome to the default browser, went through the Nest app account selection song and dance again, and the app seems to work now, even after changing the default browser app to a better package..
