No data appearing in the Home App for 4th Gen Nest Thermostat

rockman503

I recently installed my 4th Gen Next Thermostat and while it is connected to WiFi and able to function manually, when I try to adjust anything from the Home App, there is zero data existing. Tried resetting, both the Nest, network, etc, but to no avail. Open support ticket with Google with no luck as of yet.

I was having the same problem and it just started working again.

Did you do something special to get it working again?

Mine was working fine yesterday, using a iPhone to connect, but today is not show any info when I click on the thermostat tab, it is showing on my husband’s android phone, been trying to troubleshoot for hours reset everything uninstalling reinstalling you name it. This is so frustrating, can’t get to a live person when I have google call me either

Sounds like the same exact problem I am having. I tried old phones, but all I have are iOS devices. Might try from an iPad or something to see if that is a different solution.

Having the same problem. Installed & reinstalled app, reset WiFi and reinstalled thermostat and still will not show up in the app. Put in a ticket for issue. No reply yet.

OK, so this is seemingly not an install issue, more software.

My state is that  when I tap on the icon for the 4G thermostat in the Google Home app, a mostly blank page comes up.  It has the "X" for exit, the thermostat's name, the settings icon and "...", but nothing else.  Is that the same as what you're seeing?

I switched from a Nest 2G and it was good for a day or two, then this.  There was an app update (to 3.36.56) around a week ago.  I wonder if the update is broken.

Yes that seems to be the same exact issue. I had control for a few days but now just nothing. Shoes connected to my WiFi etc. but not the app

I’m having the same issue, worked for a day then not. Seems like app/software issue.

Has anyone had this resolved yet? Or seen any progress whatsoever?

I requested a call from google, spoke to 3 techs, was told they had to put in a ticket, also received an email stating:

“Our Engineering Team is aware of reports, beginning around July 12, 2025, where users are unable to open the thermostat controller in the Google Home app after pairing a Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen). Many users have also reported seeing a blank controller screen.

Please rest assured that the issue is being actively investigated with urgency. At this time, we do not have an estimated timeframe for resolution, but we’re doing everything we can to address it as quickly as possible.”

FYI: it’s also just started working again

On an iPhone and/or iOS device.

On an iPhone runner latest software

Did you do anything that might have made it start working?

Are you using the Google Home app version 3.36.56?  (Settings (the gear) => Support => App info)

iOS 18.5?

Not working for me.

I’m running Google Home App App version 3.36.56 IOS 18.5 on a iPhone 16 Pro Max with an gen 4 thermostat, and I did everything I could think of and googled for hours trying to find answers. I reset my router, uninstalled and reinstalled both the  Nest and Home App from my phone, reset my thermostat to factory settings and set it up last time was with the google tech guy guiding thru the process over the phone, removed the thermostat from my apps and reinstalled back on google home. Made sure my address matched on nest and home apps. Mage sure my email address matched as well on both accounts. Removed my linked husband account from the google home app and added him back again, he’s has an android phone and was able to see the thermostat the whole time as long as he was added on the account in google home app when I couldn’t. Like I said had I made arrangements for google to call me and spoke with 3 tech support agents, last one saying he needed to enter a ticket and I would hear back in 24 to 48 hours. After hanging up about half hour later itvwas back. I jump thru hoops but I couldn’t tell you what actually fixed the issue.

Hey all,

We're aware of an issue with accessing thermostat controls in the Google Home app. We’ll share an update as soon as possible, thanks for your patience.

Best regards,

Virna

Is there any timeframe?

Hi rockman503,

Please keep an eye on this thread, we will let you know the news as soon as possible.

Regards,
Virna

@virnab , For some reason, I got onto a page where I had to specify a username and it wouldn't let me use the one I had, pvanderbilt.  I can log out, but it always logs me in using the new one, pvanderbilt_.  How can I go back?

Same issue.  So without Google Home accessing my Gen 4 stat, I have no access to my schedule.  I assumed I could access and modify the schedule in the Gen 4 stat itself like I would do on my Gen 3.   Unfortunately, it appears that the Gen 4 does not store the schedule on the stat??  Why would Google release the next generation without this basic functionality?  Without the Google Home app, I’m totally blind?

I have 4 zones.  (3) Gen 3 and (1) Gen 4 that has decreased functionality??  No learning, no Nest app so I can access all four, no access to schedule.  And you don’t sell the Gen 3 anymore?????

Maybe I am missing something obvious?

(I used to have (4) Gen 3 but a lightning strike took out one and I thought it made sense ti upgrade to Gen 4. )

@virnab

Is there any update on what is going on with Google Nest 4th Gen thermostat? I can’t imagine Google has yet to figure this out in nearly 2 weeks.

What is the latest update? It's been a week now. My 1st Gen device was getting deprecated thanks to Google, so I upgrade to 4th Gen and the thing hasn't worked since installing it last week. I never had a single day where the Nest App didn't work for me in the previous 10 years of use. Now, the Google Home app hasn't even worked for a single day.

I reported this issue two weeks ago, a day after successfully installing a brand new Gen 4 after our 1.5 year old gen 3 mysteriously stopped connecting to our wifi. Now I have the same blank screen. After three calls to Google, this “emerging issue” seems to have no repair in site. I’m so disappointed in Google’s lack of communication on this. If I wanted a manually controlled thermostat, I could have save $200. Zero communication from Google since I called this in two weeks ago - not even to say “we’re working on it.” What a shame. I’m wondering if there was even anything wrong with my 1.5 year old gen 3 that I got rid of. I feel duped. I hope it’s not too late to return this.

@virnab How about getting someone from engineering to tell us the state of the problem?

Is it only happening for iOS devices?

Where is the problem?  The iOS Home app?  Or the server that supplies the data to the Home app?  Or some server-to-server connection (like maybe Nest to Home)?

rockman503

Still no help. Tried support again this morning and they know it’s an issue but no fix in sight. Anyone has theirs working?

POz20

Nope.  Still waiting.

@virnab, how about some feedback?   It is hard to believe that Google-quality engineers and support staff haven't solved this, if given the time to work on it.  So how about some clue that the problem is being worked on?

I know your engineers are busy and giving an update takes away from solving the problem.  But we're busy too.  This issue takes our time.  And there are more of us, I imagine maybe 50x more, given the typical ratio of people that post on boards like this.

I'm not asking for a full report.  But by now they should know where the problem isn't.  Thermostat, Nest server, app server, app? Communication between two or more of these?   Is it just iOS apps?  What's up?

Crickets.  Buy Honeywell’s Smart Stat.  I’m done with these guys.

Ours started working today!

Mine did as well.  It would be nice to understand why it took two weeks plus with zero explanation or updates.
