Weve been having issues this cooling season as our basic nest refuses to follow the schedule. Example: today the daytime temp us set at 75, dropping to 72 at 630pm and 69 at 845. At 715pm, i thought it felt warm by snd checked and it said 76, target temp of 75. The target temp never flipped to 72. I manually adjusted after a reset didnt work. Same **bleep** happened 2 hrs later…still cooling to target 72, not recognizing the new target. This never happened the three previous years…
advice says to turn off auto-schedule, but there are zero iptions when i open tgat setting. Its not a learning thermostat - just do what i tell you!
any ideas?

We have…the Nest. Its jit a learning or anything else but its definitely a new this year issue. We have not had this problem the last 3 (?) years since we installed it. There is no error message. It just doesn’t do the single most basic thing a programmable thermostat is supposed to do - follow the program.
Presence sensing is off and I have done not only several resets but a Factory Reset that was obnoxiously difficult

I see no option to upload a wiring picture but I will reiterate - this worked perfectly with no changes for 3 years. Suddenly this year, it is not working. I have a program set - yes, please re-read my initial post. I do not have error messages, I have a Thermostat that is not following the most basic function a programmable thermostat has - following the schedule. I have reset everything - as I said, I did a factory reset and it did nothing.
This sure seems like a software update was pushed that doesn't work...

I am having the exact same issue. My model is the Nest Thermostat Smart Peogrammable wifi.
06-30-2024 06:52 AM
I've been having the same issue. The thermostat ignores my schedules and maintains my 'Sleep' schedule temperatures well into the afternoon. Seems like the thermostat is ignoring my preferences and using my air conditioning aggressively for no reason. Even on cool mornings, it still runs for hours because it didn't change from 'Sleep' (68 degrees) to 'Comfort' (72 degrees).

I'm telling you that it's a lack of a setting within Google Home for the "Automatic Schedule Changes". Suddenly it's overriding my schedule (which I built for a reason) and continuing to use my AC excessively. What's the point of my temperature schedules if they are completely ignored?

I do not have an option to attach an image here. The wiring is standard with the following wires: Y, C, W, G, R, *OB. The installation was done by a professional and I would like to be clear: I have had this thermostat for 3 years without issues.
The ONLY setting to change within the device settings in Google Home is the addition of the "Automatic Schedule Changes", which is accompanied by the Google Gemini symbol. I am assuming that Google is using AI to adjust how the thermostat interacts with my home.
I have not added a family member to my home for 4 years. I cannot stress enough that NOTHING has changed on my end. The only change to have happen was on Google's end.

Here's another incredible update for this thread:
It's currently 5:37 am. My sleep schedule is supposed to keep the house at 68 degrees until 7:00 am. I was woken up because my house is CURRENTLY SET TO 61 DEGREES. This is the first time this has happened overnight. Usually it ignored my schedule for comfort to be between 7am and 9pm. But now it's completely changing my temperatures and doing so overnight - and waking me up early because I'm actually too cold in my own bed.
I don't know what you or anyone else at Google needs to push this info up the line and get the programmers to make an update in Google Home. Tell them to add the functionality to turn off "Automatic Schedule Changes" within the Google Home app. That's all I need. Or fix how it "learns" so it stops running my AC for 6 HOURS STRAIGHT from 10pm to 4am.
(For your reference before you ask, it's 71 degrees outside right now. My sleep is set to 68 degrees. My comfort is set to 72 degrees. Give me one good reason that my thermostat decided to turn my house into the Arctic circle tonight? Why would it adjust my sleep temperature by 7 degrees, run my AC for 4 hours straight, and cost me extra money on a night where it only had to cool the house 3 degrees different from the outside temperature?)

Hey @gmelanymelissa,
I finally factory reset my device because I'm fed up and would you like to guess what happened? Absolutely f nothing! "Automatic Schedule Changes" are still on! Isn't that wonderful? I did not have any option to turn them off or to opt out of them when setting my thermostat up.
I love that Google is making me run my AC for 6 hours straight against my will! I love paying more money to the electric company for wasting electricity!! Hooray!

Again a there is no reason for replacement as this is clearly not a hardware issue. Since opening this thread, it has returned to proper behavior. Guessing you guys found the bug and pushed out an uodate

I reached out and called Google Nest Support separately and they were unable to assist me either. They removed my account and added it again to clear any previously stored data regarding my schedule issues. I also removed all of my schedules in my settings. I have re-adjusted my temperature preferences. The "Automatic Schedule Changes" is still turned on and still malfunctioning and setting my home to undesirable temperatures.
Yesterday while away from home, my home temperature reached 104⁰ because the settings for my thermostat were changed and I had to reconfigure them all again.
If you have any other solutions or can get me in touch with a supervisor or manager who has authority to make changes to my account directly, I would prefer that. Otherwise, I don't think you or anyone at the base level Nest Support is able to help me. The setting persists and the option to turn it off is still nowhere to be found.
Thanks

Hello, I’m having the same issues as everyone, with my Nest thermostat. I have a regular nest thermostat. Not the E or learning…. regular…. The thing refuses to follow my schedule and there is no option to turn off automatic schedule changes. In the google home app. I Reset, clear, restart, turned off every single option so it doesn’t make its own adjustments but this garbage of a thermostat has a mind of its own. Very frustrating and annoying. A $20 dollar honeywell thermostat does a better job.

Same problem here. I turned off all these automated settings years ago and this darn Nest does what it wants. This is costing people time, money and energy and Google should pay.

Hello Alphabet/ Google, we set our nest to 72 and it automatically pushes itself down to 69. What is going on? Only my wife and I have access to the thermostat and we have all of the features turned off!!
