Optimized Occupancy

Hi folks,

We're a small church built in 1865 with an old oil furnace and steam radiators. The heating bill is our biggest expense, and on a winter Sunday morning it can take 3-4 hours to get from 50 degrees (where we keep the temperature during the week) to 70 in the sanctuary. We're hoping that the Nest learning functions will reduce that start time. Here are my questions.

  • How does the Nest Tstat get weather data and how accurate is it? If they're pulling it from somewhere online, do they use outdoor RH to calculate enthalpy, which would be more efficient?
  • I can't see the setup in the app without purchasing the device, is there a demonstration video anywhere of the setup showing earliest start, latest start, occupancy time, etc?
  • Does the learning start at occupancy and work back or start at earliest start and work forward? How long does it take to dial in if occupancy only changes once a week? We have some elderly parishioners, they can't hear the sermon if their teeth are chattering.

The setup process involves physically mounting and connecting the thermostat to your heating system, connecting it to your Wi-Fi network using the Nest app, and configuring settings through the app or thermostat itself, such as desired temperatures, scheduling, and occupancy settings.

 

The Nest Thermostat learns from manual adjustments and schedules, adapting and optimizing settings over time. It takes a few weeks to understand occupancy patterns and temperature preferences, requiring manual adjustments for comfort. The thermostat's learning capability should gradually adapt to changes in occupancy and temperature preferences over time.
