Hello fellow Googleites! I'm hoping someone can help me out.
I can't use my heat pump on my dual energy furnace effectively because the outside temp it's receiving from the Nest thermostat is 5 to 10 degrees celsius too high. If i set my furnace to use the heat pump, overnight and in the morning it runs continuously without heating the house. I've reset the thermostat and changed the location but it hasn't helped. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

Hi @Robteroy,
Thank you for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing some inconveniences with your Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen, as it is showing an incorrect temperature. Thank you for letting me know that you've already attempted some troubleshooting steps! Please allow me to assist you with this.
To begin, I need some relevant information:
Once you provide this information, I will be happy to assist you.

Hi Debora. Thanks
The only thermostat in our house was installed in Feb. I believe, centered in our open concept living area. I believe the problem started a month later when I installed Gemini on my S23 phone because, both Gemini on my phone and my Nest thermostat show the same wrong outside temp for our location. If I ask Gemini the temp. of surrounding towns, they are all 5 to 10 degrees lower than our town. I've used Environment Canada, The Weather Network, Accuweather, etc. for readings. Our HVAC is Daikin.
Is there a different build of Gemini I could install? Not sure how to fix it.
Thanks

Hi @Robteroy,
Thanks for giving me that information! Quick clarification: Gemini just displays the temperature your thermostat is already reading, so it's not the problem here. I've put together some steps for you to try next!

Debora. Thank you for trying to help.
Let’s try this again. The nest thermostat switches my HVAC from gas to heat pump and back according to the outside temp. It receives the outside temp from the internet. If the temp it receives is wrong, the thermostat changes which heat source it uses incorrectly. The heat pump looses efficiency as the outside temp drops. If it’s 0 degrees C outside but the temp it receives is 10 degrees the heat pump will run continuously without producing any heat costing more electricity and reducing the life of the heat pump.
I’ll try Sunblock. The thermostat is not near any heat source.

Hi @Robteroy
Thanks for the additional details about what's happening with your Nest Learning Thermostat 4th gen and for confirming that the device isn't near other heat sources. Please finish the steps and let me know the result so we can continue troubleshooting your device.
Keep me posted!

Hi Debora. Many restarts. Sunblock was on. No luck yet. The thermostat is centered in a large open concept room. The sun does not shine on it. It's 10 feet away from the kitchen stove. The wall that it is on has 1 electrical plug 4 feet away and a cold air return 5 feet below and to the left of it.

So just now my thermostat and Gemini/ Google assistant display 19.5 C outside while a town 2 miles down the mountain Gemini says is 15 C. Also a town 4 miles the other way Gemini says is 12 C.
My weather station, my thermometers, Accuweather, The Weather Network all correlate with the other 2 towns but not the one I live in.
When I change the location in my Home app attached to Nest the outside temp
Nest displays is much closer to all my other temperature sources for where I live.
Google is retrieving incorrect temperature readings for Lumby British Columbia, but not the surrounding towns

Hi Debora.
This pathway (Settings > Network > Disconnect.)to disconnect from the internet does not exist on my thermostat. I cannot find a way to disconnect.
Could you acknowledge that we are not talking about the thermostats temperature readings. The problem is the outside temperature being sent to the thermostat.

Hi @Robteroy
Thanks for the information! I appreciate you clarifying that we're focusing on the outside temperature issue itself, rather than the readings. The steps I previously shared are a necessary part of our process. The team would like to learn more about this behavior, so when you get a chance, please fill out this form and let us know when you're finished. We'll have someone reach out to you via email from there.
Best regards
Debora
