Nest 3G is Locked and I forgot the PIN. The thermostat doesn't show in the App. No way to tell if it is connected to wifi. Is there a way to unlock? I haven't found anything online.

Hi @cloudassistance,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing issues with your Nest Thermostat 3rd gen because it is locked and the PIN is no longer available. Let me help you with that!

Before we move forward, could you share a few details:

  • Do you have access to a USB cable?
  • Do you have access to a personal computer?

Once you're ready with those, I'll be more than happy to provide assistance.

Best regards,

Debora

Hi @MikeDG,

Thanks for replying! Here are the steps you need to follow:

Connecting Your Nest Device

  • First, please insert the USB cable into the USB port on the back of the thermostat display, then connect the thermostat display to a computer using the USB cable.
  • Next, locate and open the folder or icon for the Nest device that should appear on your computer screen.
    • Tip: If you're using a Mac, you'll need to open the Finder icon or press Command + Spacebar to open the search bar and locate the Nest folder.

Finding the "technicalinfo.PLIST" File

  • Once you've done this, you need to find a file on your computer named "technicalinfo.PLIST."
  • If you don't see it, please try using a different USB port, USB data cable, or computer, if available. If the file still doesn't show up, please restart your computer.

Let me know once you find this file, and I'll provide you with the rest of the troubleshooting steps!

Best regards,

Debora
