Outside unit fan making noise after installing Nest

Ever since I installed the Nest Thermostat, the fan in the external unit is making a noise (when on) as if it is hitting something. There are no obstructions to the fan visually and it seems odd to me that this issue occured as soon as I changed the thermostat.

Hi there aagam2

Thanks for reaching out to our community

It's understandable to suspect the Nest thermostat since the noise started right after you installed it. However, most thermostats only function as on/off switches, so my first thought is that there might be a coincidence at play here.

This noise could be caused by a few things besides any visible obstructions. A failing bearing, a loose component, or debris buildup could also make the fan noisy.

If you still have your old thermostat, I recommend swapping it back to see if the fan continues to make strange noises. If the noise stops after swapping them, there might be an issue with your Nest thermostat's wiring, such as an incompatibility that can make the fan run at incorrect speeds.

Let me know how it goes.

Kindly,

Angel
