Peak Billing and Time-of-Use settings 2

jhalo1922

A previous question asked if it was possible to select between a dual fuel system based on the utility time-of-use rates.  A reply by Markjosephp  indicated that this is done using the Nest's "Time of use" feature to set a fixed schedule for when to use the heat pump and furnace, respectively.

I see no such feature in the app nor any ability to set a fixed schedule. The only option relevant to schedule is a single toggle to enable "Auto-Schedule.

How do I enable scheduling to switch between my heat pump and gas furnace according to a utility time-of-use rate structure?

Hi, @jhalo1922,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I’m truly sorry that the option to create a schedule for switching between your heat pump and gas furnace is not available. I’m happy to help you and find a solution.

To provide you the right information, please provide the following information:

With that information, I will be able to determine if you have an auxiliary heat or an emergency heat.

If you have an auxiliary heat. You can choose how much AUX heat your system will use when your heat is running. AUX heat can cost about 2 to 5 times as much as running your heat pump. With auxiliary heat, you can select a level of comfort and savings you like: more comfort, more savings, or a balance between the two.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana

Was Markjosephp answer to the previous question incorrect? Or is your answer incorrect? Why does Nest support give out contradictory information about its own products?

Please refrain from overly verbose answers.  Please do not answers questions that were not asked.

Hi, @jhalo1922,

Thank you so much for your response. I apologize if the information caused any confusion. I'm happy to clarify your inquiry!

The information provided by the previous community specialist is accurate. If you have the rush hour program, you can follow the steps provided in the previous post or the articles you were referred to.

If you don't have any subscription or rush hour program, you have the option to use the Heat Pump Balance. This feature is possible to use if you have an auxiliary heat. Based on the information requested in my previous post, I can determine if your system is compatible with this feature that will help you to alternate between your heat types.

Feel free to reply if you have any questions.

Best regards,

Ana

Markjosephp's answer to the previous question refers to a "time of use" feature.  I quote it below

The Nest thermostat actually offers a feature called "Time of Use" that allows you to set up a schedule based on peak hours.

With the Nest Thermostat, you can create a custom schedule that switches between your heat pump and gas furnace during specific times of the day. By leveraging the Time of Use feature, you can set your preferred heating source for peak times and switch to the more energy-efficient option during off-peak hours.

Does this "time of use" feature exist? As I stated previously, I cannot find any such feature in the Nest app nor any documentation of its existence.

Hi there!

Thank you so much for your response. I'm happy to assist you further.

If you have the Nest Learning Thermostat or the Nest Thermostat E, you will be able to set an auto-schedule only. Since that post was published over seven months ago, many features have been updated or removed.

If you have the Nest Renew subscription, you can take advantage of many energy-saving features through the Nest Renew portal. You can refer to this link to check the available options: Energy Shift.

Regarding your request to alternate between heat types, you can take advantage of the Heat Pump Balance feature. It's the most similar option we have available. I'd really appreciate it if you could share the information requested in my previous post so I can check compatibility.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana

Again, stop with the needlessly verbose replies and stop answering questions that were not asked. Only answer this specific question in one sentence or less.

Markjosephp claimed that the Nest thermostat had a feature. He described the feature as

The Nest thermostat actually offers a feature called "Time of Use" that allows you to set up a schedule based on peak hours.

Does the "Time of Use" feature actually exist?

Then why did Markjosephp say that this feature existed in his post here?
