Question about thermostat wires

My old thermostat had a white wire going to W and a red to Rc. There was a jumper wire connecting Rc to Rh. There were no other wires.

When I connected my Nest, I got an error message saying it needed power. That's presumably what the jumper connected Rc to Rh did. Since Nest Help is quite clear not to use a jumper, how can I get a power connection?

You don’t need a jumper. What model of Nest thermostat are you installing? Nest 2nd and 3rd generations don’t require C wires. Also I assume your restored to your furnace after installing your nest?
