Re: NO QR CODE & NO ENTER KEY - HELP !!!

I have a similar problem with my nest thermostat, which is very old. It does not have a QR code at all. There are no key numbers anywhere. The settings do not take me to anything with a key number. My old Nest app works on my old iPad. It used to work on my iPhone but that stopped working, I don’t want to go all the way back to reset the thermostat & lose the iPad which is the only device that works. The iPhone & iPad are on the same version of the app.

To confirm, which model of thermostat do you have?

How to tell which Nest thermostat you have - Google Nest Help

If the Nest app works on your iPad, are you signed into the Nest app on your iPhone using the same account you're using on the iPad? Assuming that's the case, your thermostat should already be there in the app.

You only use the QR code or setup key during setup once. It's not used to add it to additional phones and tablets, you just need to sign in with the same account you used during setup.

Thanks for answering me. I hope you can help. I have what I think is a first generation Nest thermostat.  It was Nest before Google bought Nest. There is no key available when I go to settings. There is no QR code.
Where the problem might be is the iPhone has been updated to iOS 18.1.1 but this old iPad is using 16.7.10 which is as updated as it can get.
The app on the iPhone used to work. Perhaps an update to the OS is what changed things. I am not sure how I could even check to see how I am signed in to the Nest app.
To add the thermostat to the app on the phone Google is needing a key. There isn’t one. Maybe the app on the phone is a newer version of the app, but I don’t see a way to get back to an old version.
I’m going to get a new iPad and am afraid the same app that is on my old iPad will not work on a new iPad.
Thank you!

Open the Nest app on your iPad and tap the settings cog at the top right. Tap Account, which will show you the email address you're signed in with. You need to login using that same email in the Nest app on your iPhone.

If it's a legacy Nest account, that you never migrated to a Google account, when logging in on the iPhone ensure you use the "Sign in with Nest" link at the bottom of the screen. If you migrated to a Google account, or have always signed in with a Google account, use the "Sign in with Google" button instead.

If you still don't see your thermostat in the Nest app on your iPhone, let me know and I'll walk you through how to add it to the app again.

Thank you for your time.
My iPad is signed in with an old email address that no longer works. Therefore, I can not verify it when Google is asking for that. I gave it 2 other emails to verify. That didn’t get me moving forward at all.

I had been trying to migrate the Nest thermostat (for a few weeks), but that didn’t work because I have no key. Now the app on the phone is not showing an option of signing in with Nest. Going in circles.

Alright, so you no longer have access to the email address you originally used to setup the thermostat. In that case, follow these steps:

  1. On the thermostat itself, press it to open the quick view menu and tap the Settings cog.
  2. Go to Reset, then choose Account connection. If you don't see this option, you'll need to select All settings instead.
  3. Login to the Nest app on your iPhone using the "Sign in with Google" button. If you don't have a Google account, you'll need to create one.
  4. Once logged into the app, on the Nest app home screen, tap the Settings cog.
  5. Tap Add product. The app will switch to a camera view to scan the thermostat’s QR code.
  6. On the thermostat, press it to open the quick view menu and tap the Settings cog.
  7. Turn the ring to select Nest app and press to open it.
  8. Select QR code. Your thermostat will show you a unique QR code to scan with the app. If it doesn't, tap Continue without scanning in the app and select Get entry key on your thermostat instead.
  9. Follow the remaining steps in the Nest app.

Let me know how you get on!

On my iPhone I clicked on the Nest app & the settings. There is no reset anywhere there.

I have tried that many times.,There’s no QR code, no key. I can not continue.
I was in the Apple Store today. They agree with me that the iPhone OS is newer than the iPad OS. It won’t work. Just like can’t update the Lightroom app on my 2017 laptop because of the OS. My solution is to keep the old iPad with its old OS & use that to connect to the Nest. I just won’t be able to adjust the temp when I am away from home.

I am so sorry I have wasted your time. I KNOW you tried. Thank you so much for trying!

Apologies, as I edited my post and changed step 1. You need to do the first reset part on the thermostat itself, so on the thermostat itself, press it to open the quick view menu, tap the Settings cog.  Go to Reset, then choose Account connection. If you don't see this option, you'll need to select All settings instead.
