Replacement learning thermostat says system changed and is shutting down

Hi, I had a nest learning thermostat with the w5 error, bought a new one and when I plug it into the mount it’s says system changed detected, thermostat is shutting down. The screen goes black and the little green light at the top remains lit. Plugging the old thermostat back in and the system is fine of course still with the w5 error. How do I get the new thermostat to work?

Hi Stcohen,

Uh-oh! I'm sorry to hear that your new Nest Learning Thermostat is shutting down. Kindly check on the following:

  1. Check for any power errors.
  2. Inspect the thermostat display. Remove the thermostat display from its base and check if any connector pins are bent.
  3. Ensure that the wires are connected properly. Check if the thermostat wires are secured in their terminals and all the buttons are down.
  4. Charge the thermostat via a micro-USB cable. Use it to plug the thermostat’s display into a power outlet and leave it plugged in for 10 minutes.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
