Replacement thermostat

I had a problem with my nest learning thermostat not picking up a WiFi signal. This is the 2nd time it has happened in a couple of months. The replacement works well (for the moment) but I have the problem that the faulty one that was sent back has not been processed properly (the tracking details say that it reached the destination) and they have now taken £139 pounds from my credit card - for their faulty equipment. Has anyone else had this happen to them and did you ever get your money back? There is no one to ring to sort this out. I really regret ever buying this product in the first place 😞

I'm in the U.S. and have the same Wi Fi connectivity issues every night at different times and length of disconnection. I haven't bothered with attempting to fix the problem by either replacing or messing with the Nest thermostat. It does what it does and should I get uncomfortable and wake up I get out of bed and go turn the thermostat up. Google (the company) is a great example of being "So intelligent but not know how to tie their own shoes) hence we can't get quick enough and satisfying assistance with their products. My other in home non Google (wifi) devices such as TV's, gaming consoles, phones, tablets, laptops don't have connection problems. My Nest E Thermostat has a clear view to the router/gateway. So who knows. I should have bought a Honeywell T-Stat controller.

Silly question, but I have asked this dozens of times on this forum.

Here goes, You are in the UK, how long have you owned the original thermostat that has gone faulty?

I got the original thermostat in February 23. I got the 1st replacement in October 23 and then that needed to be replaced at the start of this month.

@Liz11The reason for asking about where you are from and how long, here in the UK we have consumer law on your side. The installer is responsible for the thermostat for at least 5 years. Look it up, or look at some of my answers to others. Google does have a 2 year warranty, but UK law is far better than that, and should have been your first line of approach.

if your question is directed at me, 2022 the E Nest T-stat was professionally installed with the new HVAC system. It worked fine for the first 10 or 11 months and then an update was rolled out that had the disconnects start.

Happened to me too.   I don't think they test their devices before selling them.  I had to RMA the device and they charged me $230 to get a replacement.  The replacement didn't turn on.  So they charged me ANOTHER $230 to get a third device.  That's $700 for one thermostat and it still doesn't work.  Plus they want me to disconnect wires in order to install the thermostat.  I'm not an electrician!!!  Terrible terrible terrible.

You should have never touched it. Let them send someone out, unless you installed the original. They are electronic devices that can be internally burned up should they be powered up with a miswiring. The law is on their side ATM. I purchase warranties with free shipping for all my electronics, and even then I can get the short end of the stick. Finding a reputable (I'd say combo) company that does both HVAC and Plumbing is the best bet to have them install it. The Nest and other T-Stats can be complicated to wire, link, account set up and program, one must be cautious. Since I bought my Nest as a package with the HVAC unit and it was all installed by the same guy, who by the way has come out to check the programming after I sign in to the account, has said (which) I agree with him, it's the Nest just dropping the connection. The Nest is literally 187 inches from the Panoramic Gateway/Router and 17 inches lower on the wall than the Gateway. The Gateway is mounted 19 inches down from the ceiling to center of the device. No other electronics between them or near by either of them, no walls, no cabinets nothing. **bleep** thing just drops it's connection. The other thing I must mention is I will not nor have I set it up for the Green Leaf program. I don't buy into the Usage Reporting either. I only have a neighbor on one side and their router is at the other end of their house, over 100 feet away and they don't have a Nest, just a forced air gas heating unit and a fireplace they enjoy.
