What is the correct procedure to remove an existing Nest gen 2 t-stat from my Nest app and replace it with a Google gen 4 t-stat and install it on the Google app ?

@THuff Try these steps:

  1. Before you reset your existing thermostat, write down the wiring information so you can easily enter your thermostat's wiring if needed. On your thermostat, go to Settings > Equipment. You might want to do this for other settings, such as system heating type, and safety temperature as well.
  2. Factory reset the thermostat: Restart or reset a Nest thermostat - Google Nest Help
  3. Once reset, physically remove it.
  4. Install your new thermostat and set it up in the Google Home app: Get started with your Nest Thermostat and Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) - Google Nest Help

Hello David,

Thanks for the response. Google tech support did not provide this method. I didn't feel good about their recommendation and thus I tried the forum. Is it correct that the 4th gen stat will not support Nest Cam or Protect devices on the Google app ?

Do you know if the Nest app will remain active until the Nest device coverage period expires ?

Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen) is designed for and setup with the Google Home app, it cannot be setup or added to the Nest app. That has no effect on any existing products you manage with the Nest app.
