Screen is white

I've had a Nest thermostat brand new in a box for a couple of years. Tried to start it up and all I get is a white screen. I tried filling out the customer service form that has been provided here twice but have not gotten any replies.

Hi Rex49,

Uh-oh! I apologize for the inconvenience you've experienced with your Nest Thermostat. If you've tried to start up the thermostat and are only seeing a white screen, it may indicate a potential hardware issue. Try these:

  1. Ensure that the Nest Thermostat is properly connected to a power source. Make sure the wiring connections are secure and that the thermostat is receiving power. You can try disconnecting and reconnecting the wires to ensure a proper connection.
  2. To perform a hard reset, press and hold the Nest Thermostat's display for about 10 seconds until the screen turns off. Release the display, and the thermostat should restart. This can help resolve any temporary glitches or software issues.
  3. If the thermostat successfully powers on but still displays a white screen, it's important to ensure that the thermostat's software is up to date. Connect the thermostat to Wi-Fi and check for any available software updates through the Nest app or website.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Hi there,

If your Nest Thermostat has just a black screen and a green light flashing, it could have a low battery. In this case, remove the thermostat display from its base, charge it using a micro-USB cable, plug it into a working power outlet, and charge it for 10 minutes.

Let us know how it goes.

It's been plugged in the whole time so it's not a battery issue.

Hello Rex49,

Gotcha. Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? Do you have other identical Nest Thermostat that don't show the same issue? If so, try to swap them to see if the issue will persist on the other thermostat or if the white screen will be gone on the thermostat in question.

Thanks,

Zoe

The other Nest thermostat works fine.

Hello there,

If the thermostat is still not showing a display and is flashing a green blinking light, could you try to still charge it using a micro-USB cable and plug it into a working power outlet? If the thermostat wakes up with the message "Please attach the thermostat display to its base," then we could tell it is charging. You may leave it for about 10 minutes.

Best regards,

Zoe
