My 2 stage Heat Pump unit will remain in stage 1 while cooling between 1-3 degrees. The Time-To-Temp ranges from 15 minutes to 45 minutes (it takes too long at stage 1 to reach temp for the area size). I have to switch the temperature settings to at least 5 degrees lower to cause the A/C to switch to stage 2. Then I return it to original temp setting.
Is there a way to set when Stage 2 is activated?

Hello LionWorks,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your inquiry. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.
Your Auxiliary heat is the backup method that many heat pumps use when the weather outside is too cold for the heat pump to work efficiently. But I did find a helpful article about the Heat Pump Balance with some settings to enable or adjust when needed.
Let us know if it helps.

Mark

Markjosephp, I do not require anymore assistance at this time. However, I will say this, that the Nest in temperatures where the summer temperature is above 110 F its’ normal behavior did not meet my needs. I had a smart comparable Honeywell thermostat controller in that location prior to the Nest learning controller. But the Nest on/off cycles were too long and costly. It also would not take advantage of the second stage. Only when I manually change the settings 5 degrees would it utilize stage 2.

Hey there,
Gor it. After your Nest thermostat is installed, multiple phases of heating and cooling are handled slightly differently for a short while. This is due to the fact that it takes time for your themostat to learn and adjust energy-saving and comfort features like Time to Temperature for your house. In most homes, learning Time to Temperature will take approximately a week, but if your heating or cooling system isn't used frequently, it can take longer.
In order to better understand your home, your preferences for temperature, and the efficiency of your system, your thermostat will manage different heating or cooling stages in different ways over time. When you raise the set point by 3.3°F over the present temperature, the second stage of heating or cooling will start operating before your Nest thermostat has turned on Time to Temperature.
Feel free to let us know if you have more questions in mind.
Regards,
Mark
