Setup process hangs at “Choose your Eco temperature”

I’m installing a Nest Learning thermostat that was purchased 2-3 years ago and never installed. I’ve done others before with no issue. During the setup process, the device says it’s charging the battery before being able to connect to wireless. After 18 hours this has not cleared. Then it gets stuck in a loop on the “Choose your Eco temperature” step; selecting heating and cooling temps and clicking Done takes me back to the same screen over and over.

Rebooting, and killing power and restarting do not clear the issue.

Suggestions??

Hi Dfbca,

Yikes! If you're encountering difficulties with the installation and setup process of your Nest Learning Thermostat, here are some suggestions to help troubleshoot the issue:

  1. The Nest thermostat's battery may have drained over time, and if it's low, connect it to a USB power source using a micro-USB cable to ensure sufficient power during the setup process. The thermostat is designed to charge itself using the HVAC system's wiring.
  2. Double-check the wiring connections between the thermostat and HVAC system to ensure they are securely connected and free from loose or damaged wires. Improper or faulty wiring can cause issues during setup. Refer to the Nest installation guide or consult a professional if unsure.
  3. To resolve configuration issues, perform a factory reset on your Nest Thermostat by selecting "Reset" from the Settings menu and following the on-screen instructions.
  4. The Nest Thermostat should be updated to the latest firmware version to avoid compatibility issues and hinder setup, which can be checked through the Nest app or the thermostat's settings menu.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe
