I just got a new nest thermostat and I swapped the wires to the closest matching. My old one has 'R' and 'RC' (which are jumped) and the red wire goes into R. A dark blue cable goes into C, but it has a Y taped to it. A wire goes to K, but there is no K on the NEST, so I put it in G.

Hmm.... 16 views. It looks like this support option is basically useless. I see that most other questions are similarly not answered.
I hope this helps someone else! My issue was a blown fuse in the furnace. When the house fuse panel was labeled, the furnace and the dishwasher were switched. So I didn't turn off the furnace like I thought I did and the fuse in the furnace blew when I pulled out the wiring to the old thermostat. I was able to get the fuse at a autoparts store. I put the furnace fuse in and joila... the thermostat turned on.
