Stuck in "Thermostat needs to restart. Be back in a bit" loop.

I am not able to control my Google nest at all but it keeps restarting (Google image appears) and the first message that pops up is regarding incorrect date and time with the option to set it.  I can't make any selections and it quickly changed to the following messsge; Thermostat needs to restart.  Be back in a bit.  It then dies and the light starts flashing red.  It will repeat this process every so often but it never actually resets.

I do have a c-wire connected but I charged it overnight just in case but it didn't solve the problem.  I changed my filter and checked the fuse and nothing is blown.

I've tried resetting it by holding down for 10 seconds but it does nothing.  Not sure where to go from here.

I’ve been on the Support ticket list for a few days now, moving from 13th in line to 9th in line.

Any help would be appreciated as it’s near 100 degrees Fahrenheit by me currently!

HI @Drosen,

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear your Nest Thermostat is stuck in a restarting loop, displaying an error message and flashing a red light, which is preventing you from using it. I understand how difficult this issue must be. I appreciate you detailing the steps you've already taken, including charging your Nest Thermostat and resetting it, and the ticket support you tried opening. No worries, let's work together to figure out the issue you're experiencing.

Can you tell me what type of Nest Thermostat you have? To check the model, please visit the next article: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have.

Also, let's make sure the wires on your Nest Thermostat are properly settled. Please follow these steps:

  • Remove your Nest Thermostat display from the base.
  • Check that all of the wires on your Nest Thermostat are fully inserted.
  • The connector button should stay in a pressed-down state on any connectors that have wires in them. If not, remove the wire and check the tip.
  • If the tip has corrosion, is bent, or has less than 1/3 inch of copper exposed, straighten and/or re-strip the end of the wire.
  • Press the connector button, and re-insert the wire. Push the wire in as far as it goes. Make sure the button stays in a pressed-down state. This indicates that you properly seat the wire.

Please let me know how it goes after trying these steps.

Cheers,
Jonathan
