Hi ScottFleck,
Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that your thermostat thinks that you have heat pump though its not. Let's sort this out.
Are you located in North America or Europe? What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? And could you send us a photo of your old thermostat wiring configuration so we can take a closer look at its compatibility with the Nest Thermostat? Also, you may factory reset your thermostat to set it back to defaults, then turn off the power to your thermostat from the breaker box, then remove them and reconnect each thermostat wire to the terminal.
Keep us posted.
Best,
Zoe

Hi there ScottFleck,
Chiming in — could you please tell what type of Nest Thermostat you have? Also, provide the make and model of your system. It will help us to ensure the type of system you have.
I appreciate the input, Zoe.
Thanks,
Jenelyn

Thank you for that information. How about your system's make and model?

It’s a Tempstar system with gas forced air heat. No heat pump.

Hello ScottFleck,
I'm sorry for the delay. Thank you for providing the information we need. Your Nest Thermostat might be configured and set up as a heat pump. You can find it by going to the Home app > and then tap the thermostat > and then tap Settings. Under Device Feature, Select Thermostat, then check for Equipment, then System details. It will tell you how your thermostat is configured.
If you confirm that it is configured incorrectly, you have to perform a factory reset on your thermostat and set it up again in the correct configuration.
Best regards,
Jenelyn
