Temp Sensor not displaying temperature in Google Home App

Lash1

Using Google Nest (4th Gen), with supplied temp sensor.  The temp sensor paired and tested successfully and appears associated to the thermostat.  However, the Google Nest app shows a “-“, where the temperature should be displayed.  The thermostat shows current room temperature but the temperature sensor does not.  No temperature for sensor on both screens when select the sensor, and also when viewing all sensors associated with thermostat.  So if it’s not displaying temperature, how do I know whether the thermostat is really reading the temperature correctly from the sensor.

Hi @Lash1,

Thanks for reaching out to our community! I understand you're having trouble getting a temperature reading from your Nest Temperature Sensor in the Google Home app. Even though it has successfully paired with your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen), the sensor's temperature appears as a dash ('-') in the app. I'm here to help you resolve this.

To share the most accurate troubleshooting steps with you, I'd first like to ask you some questions:

  • What is the make/model of the device you're using to control the thermostat and the sensor?
  • What is the software version of the device you use for your thermostat?
  • Did you see a low battery message in your Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen)?
  • What is the Google Home app version on your device?
  • What is the distance between your Nest sensor and your Nest Learning Thermostat?
  • How far is your Nest sensor from your router?

In the meantime, I'd like to share some troubleshooting steps:

  • Restart the thermostat.
  • Remove the sensor battery for at least 30 seconds, then put it back.
  • Run a connection test. On the Nest app, go to Settings > Nest Temperature Sensors > Affected Sensor > Check Connection.
  • To perform a full reset, remove the battery from the sensor for 5 minutes and then put it back.
  • Unpair and pair the sensor back to the account.
