why is my thermostat bouncing between degrees late at night or early in the morning?  I’m not sure if it’s running or not but it’s strange and want to make sure it’s working correctly.

Hello Jabds,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

It appears that your thermostat detects changes between the Home and Away features. Try disabling it in the Nest app or on your actual Nest Thermostat's Home and Away Assist to deactivate the Eco Temperatures. Also, make sure to turn off the Auto-schedule in the Nest Sense settings, then restart the thermostat once the changes have been made.

Monitor it for 24 hours and let me know if that helps.

Regards,
Mark

hi Mark,

unfortunately I received a W5 error and have to do a warranty exchange.  When I set up the new unit and see if this trend continues.  If so I’ll follow the instructions above.

Hey there,

Oh! Thanks for letting me know. Your new Nest Thermostat is also programmed as a new device. You can now disable those settings I mentioned above so it'll only follow your created Temperature Schedule. But in the meantime, monitor it, and if anything comes up, keep me posted.

Best,
Mark

Thanks for getting back and should I try setting it up without home and away or should I just see if this issue is still occurring with the new thermostat?  I’m also not using a C wire and have seen that weird issues occur when one isn’t used.  I have a fan wire which I can use as a c but I also bought the google power adaptor but just haven’t installed it yet.

Hi folks,

@Jabds, you can set it up like how it used to be. After that, monitor if your Nest Thermostat is working as it should. Also, don't move the wires yet, we'll just need to check how your new thermostat would react to the old setup.

Once you install your new thermostat, check its power readout by going to the Settings > Technical Info > Power

Please keep us posted.

I appreciate the help, Mark.

Best regards,

Jenelyn

Hello there,

Thanks for your assistance here, Jenelyn.

@Jabds, I don't want to be a nudge, but I'd like to check if your new Nest Thermostat is working as intended. Feel free to reach out again if you still need help.

Hi Mark,

Google sent a unit and it kept dying and when it was plugged into the base it would say to remove and reinsert.  I would do so and no result.  I called support again and they sent another unit.  A little strange with this unit because it bears the nest logo on the front and back.  Nevertheless same results.  Currently on a call with google to resolve.  Very frustrating to say the least.

Hi Jabds,

Oh no! I'm sorry for the trouble this may have caused you. It appears that the thermostat display isn't recognizing the wires on its base. With this, if all the necessary steps have been taken, such as ensuring that the wires are flat on the base, loosening the screws on the base, inspecting the 20-pin connector on both the thermostat display and base, and also reinserting the wires,

Please make an arrangement with the team for the next possible option if the same issue persists, and keep me posted on how it goes.

Regards,
Mark

Received my third replacement thermostat today with a new base.  I installed it and now my unit is functioning again, however I do not have any usage history.  I will need a week or so to see if the temperatures are still jittering.  I will not set up a schedule and only use home/away functions.

Hi Jabds,

It's me again. I'm glad to hear that a replacement was sent. Since it was a newly installed thermostat, it needs time to learn about how you use energy; it usually takes at least a day after installation for Energy History information to appear. Make sure that the Auto-schedule feature in its settings is activated after the installation.

Let us know if you need more help.

Regards,
Mark
