Thermostat automatically turning heat on

Barber
Community Member

I have 4 nest thermostats and have had 2 of them recently turn the heat on when the system was turned off. It is summer here, the heat shouldn’t be turning on. Any ideas why the thermostat is turning itself on when I had the mode set to off?

Hi, @Barber,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I apologize for the inconvenience caused by the heater turning on unexpectedly. I'm happy to assist you in finding a solution.

To gather more information and provide you the best assistance, please provide the following information:

  • What type of thermostat do you have?
  • Are you located in the European Union or North America?
    • If you're in North America, do you have a heat pump or a conventional system?
    • Would you mind sharing a picture of your wiring configuration?
  • Do you have a heating-only system or both heating and cooling?
    • If you have both systems, does the issue occur with heating only, cooling only, or both?
  • Are there any error messages displayed on the thermostat?
  • Have you noticed any specific intervals or patterns in these unusual occurrences?
  • When was the last maintenance check for your HVAC system?
  • Has there been any recent changes or upgrades to your HVAC system?
  • Did you create any schedule on your thermostat?

If you have created any schedules, please try deleting them. Refer to this article for instructions: Learn about Nest thermostat temperature schedules and how to change them.

Additionally, if Eco mode is enabled, please disable it. Check out this article for instructions: Set your Nest thermostat to heating, Eco, or off.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Ana
