It is super disappointing that app support is being discontinued for our older nest thermostat. Controlling the temperature remotely is a very important feature and not to have access to that any longer will be a big issue. I find it very unfair that app support is being discontinued. If the system is upgraded, what is involved in installation of the new thermostat? Also, can anyone recommend any less expensive thermostats that can be controlled remotely?

Replacing the older thermostat with a newer model is fairly easy & quick. Sadly, not everyone (including myself) wants to replace a perfectly functioning thermostat just so they can sell me a newer model which likely has features I don't want in my home, such as listening technology.

Agreed! We have 2 thermostats and we have been very happy with them. No issues and both still working. If we are being forced to upgrade then we will switch brands… class action lawsuit?

The whole reason I got this thing was to co trip the temperature remotely. To have to buy it again just to do what it already does is ludicrous.

Yes, screw goog home products if this is the way it's going to be. No **bleep** reason to not continue to support old ones for basic functionality other than a money grab.

Yep, exactly. I just bought this house in June and one of the things that I loved is that it came equipped with multiple smart features such as nest smoke/co detectors and a nest thermostat. Well, in the past two days, I have discovered that BOTH of those things are now not going to fully function in a matter of weeks. The smoke/co, I kind of understand. But a perfectly functional thermostat?!
So, if Google is forcing me to upgrade, what incentive do I have to stay in the Google ecosystem, knowing that planned obsolescence seems to be the name of their game?
It's a shame. I have SO many google products. I'm typing this on a Google phone that has service through Google Fi. I have two sets of google earbuds. Multiple nest products. Google wifi setup. This puts such a negative taste in my mouth that I want to move away from buying google products.
