I have a 2nd gen Nest Thermostat which has been working flawlessly for many years until the 24th Sept when it was last updated (automatically)
Since then it doesn't hold a charge, goes to low battery mode and then forgets the wifi and disconnects from the heat link = no heating = cold house = cold wife and children.
I started to troubleshoot (H1 errror) and after moving the thermostat closer to heatlnk and rebooting wifi network, managed to reset both the heat link and the thermostat and heatlink and reconnect them.
Then the thermostat went to sleep due to low power. I tested the USB cable in the thermostat on another device and it's working, but not charging the thermostat in its holder.
I removed the thermostat from its stand and started to charge it directly via USB and it is now charging, connected to Wi-Fi and able to control the heat link again. But it's not in its stand.
Methinks there are 2 possible problems
1) the stand has an issue
2) the software update has a bug causing the low power issues which many others seem to be experiencing.
What do you guys think?
Thank you!

Hi Eog747,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I am sorry that you are having issues with your Nest Learning Thermostat when setting it up. But no need to worry, help is here.
While it's not recommended to charge the Nest Thermostat Gen 2 directly via USB for extended periods, it's possible that the stand might have been causing some interference or preventing the thermostat from charging properly. As for now, we don't have any official reported issues regarding the firmware updates and the thermostat charge, we really appreciate your feedback.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
