Thermostat overshooting target temperature

markpack

My Nest thermostat has been working fine, but in the last few days it's started badly overshooting the set temperature. E.g. if the schedule is set to 18.5 degrees, it will carry on heating up the place until it's reading 21 degrees and the heating continues even when it's over the target. It's as if the learning has suddenly gone wrong. Any advice on what I can do to troubleshoot this? Thanks.

Thanks for asking. The problem turned out to be with the diverter valve on the boiler.

Hi markpack,

The Google Nest Thermostat E and Google Nest Learning Thermostat can learn your daily routine and automatically create a temperature schedule for you. If you prefer to disable learning and have your thermostat follow a fixed temperature schedule, you can turn Auto-Schedule off. That way the schedule won't change unless you make manual changes to it.

If you don't want your Nest Thermostat E or Nest Learning Thermostat to make automatic adjustments to its temperature schedule as it learns what temperatures you like and when, turn off Auto-Schedule. Then, you can manually edit the existing schedule, or create an entirely new one.

Check this link to turn off Auto-Schedule learning.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Mel

Thanks for responding. My problem is a different one I'm afraid. The problem isn't with the thermostat having the right target temperature, it's that the heating is consistently on too much so that the system keeps on overshooting the target temperature. So it's not about auto-learning vs manual schedule, as the issue isn't with what temperature the thermostat is trying to reach, but rather that it keeps on taking my home to a higher temperature.
