Thermostat restrictions

Will someone please figure out how to prevent anyone from adjusting the thermostat from any display in the home??? Please!? I mean as advanced as technology is these days you’d think this should be possible with a simple update.

Hi DavidG2,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry for the delay. What type of Nest Thermostat do you have? You can visit this link to check what type of thermostat you have. For Nest Thermostat 2020, we have a smart feature called Hold. It overrides Schedules and auto-away modes for up to 12 hours. At the end of a temperature hold, your Nest thermostat will resume its regular temperature schedule. You can set and hold a specific temperature preference for a specified amount of time. When a hold is active, you should no longer be able to manually change the temperature from the main display.

You can activate Hold by following this guide:

On the device:

  1. From the main display, tap the touch panel to bring up the menu
  2. Swipe the touch panel downwards until you see the Hold feature.
  3. Tap the touch panel again to select Hold, then select a temperature to hold.
  4. Select an end time.

In the app:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices .
  3. From the thermostat controller, tap Hold .
  4. Select a temperature to hold and a Start and End time.

For Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E:

Locking your Google Nest thermostat prevents people from changing settings or changing the temperature outside of a restricted range with the thermostat. When you set your Nest thermostat to Heat•Cool mode, you can choose a temperature range. Your thermostat will heat or cool to stay within this range. The smallest range you can set on your thermostat is 2º F (for example, 68-70º F).

Follow these steps to lock your Nest thermostat:

  1. Press your thermostat's ring to open the Quick View menu.
  2. Turn the ring to Settings Nest settings icon and press to select.
  3. Turn the ring to find Lock.
  4. Press the ring again to confirm that you want to lock your thermostat.
  5. Enter a four digit PIN that's easy to remember, and enter it again to confirm.
    • Note: If you forget your PIN you can unlock your thermostat with the Nest or Home app.
  6. If you lock your thermostat in Heat•Cool mode, the Lock icon will appear at the bottom of the screen.
  7. If you lock your thermostat in Heat mode or Cool mode, you'll need to set a temperature range. Turn the ring to set the minimum and maximum temperatures. Press to continue.
  8. Press the thermostat ring to choose Done and lock your thermostat, or select Change if you need to make any changes to your lock settings.
  9. The Lock icon at the bottom of the screen shows that the thermostat is locked.

Best,

Jenelyn
