Thermostat running almost ALL day

I recently bought a couple nest thermostats for my house. The one that controls my main floor and basement seems to have no issues and runs at normal hours. The one that controls upstairs runs for upwards of 22 hours a day but no heat seems to be coming out when it says it is heating! I have no idea what’s wrong with it. I’ve had a HVAC guy come out and he hooked up his thermostat, which made the system normal again. I think my Nest is wrong but I want to try trouble shooting before I replace it

Hello Naderhachem,

It sounds like you're dealing with quite the puzzling situation with your Nest Thermostat upstairs. It's good that you've already had an HVAC professional come out to assess the situation and test their own thermostat. That helps rule out any major system issues.

Before considering a replacement, there are a few troubleshooting steps you could try:

  1. Make sure there are no obstructions blocking airflow from your vents upstairs. Sometimes furniture or even closed vents can restrict airflow, making it seem like the heat isn't reaching the room properly.
  2. Check the scheduling settings on your Nest Thermostat to ensure there are no anomalies or conflicts that could be causing it to run longer than necessary.
  3. Carefully inspect the wiring connections on your thermostat to ensure they are secure and properly connected. Loose or damaged wiring could cause issues with functionality.
  4. Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve glitches or connectivity issues. You can do this by going to the thermostat's settings and choosing the option to restart or reset.
  5. If none of these steps resolve the issue, please share with us its wiring setup and power readouts in the Technical Info settings or in the Equipment settings on the thermostat device itself.

Keep us posted.

Best regards,
Mark
