I am having the battery issue on a Gen3 thermostat. Installed 4 months ago and just started getting the error. One charged via usb, will it lose charge again?

Hello Kerm,

I'm sorry to hear about the battery issue you're experiencing with your Nest Learning Thermostat. I'd be happy to take a look at this for you.

Charging the thermostat via USB is a good temporary solution, but it's essential to figure out why it's losing charge in the first place. Several factors could be contributing to this, such as faulty wiring, power surges, or even power-related issues.

Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Ensure that the wiring connections are secure and properly inserted into the thermostat. Loose connections can cause power fluctuations, leading to battery drain.
  2. Make sure the thermostat is receiving adequate power from the HVAC system. If there are any issues with the HVAC system or its power source, it could affect the thermostat's performance.
  3. Gather the power readouts in the Technical Info settings and tell us the wiring report you're getting.
  4. In the meantime, continue charging the thermostat via USB as needed, but keep an eye on it to see if the issue persists.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
Mark
