Thermostat switching to wired only mode by itself

SparkFord
Community Member

I have a 2nd generation Nest thermostat that worked perfectly for years. However, in the past few months, it has started disconnecting from the Wi-Fi network and switching to wired only mode and stops heating despite still showing the heating being on on the display. The Wi-Fi signal in the room is very strong, and I even tried using a Wi-Fi booster in the same room, but it didn’t resolve the issue. Reconnecting to Wi-Fi through the heat link is simple, but after a day or two, it reverts to wired mode and stops functioning properly. I’ve also attempted a factory reset, but that didn’t help either.

Thanks for your help!

Hi SparkFord,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I'm sorry your thermostat is switching to wired mode by itself. I’m here to help! To better understand the situation, could you please clarify what you mean by "wired-only mode"? Are you referring to the initial setup process where the thermostat connects to Wi-Fi using a USB cable? Also, I’d like to ask the following questions:

1. What kind of thermostat do you have? Here’s a link for your reference: How to tell which Nest thermostat you have
2. When did the issue first occur?
3. When the display is on, do you see if it is showing any error code?
4. Have you experienced any power outages recently?
5. Does the inconvenience happen with both heating and cooling or just heating?
6. When did you install the thermostat?

Any further details would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Juan

Thanks for getting back to me.

what I mean by wired only mode is when I go to settings/equipment/heat link it usually says heat link connected, wired and wirelessly. Whenever the problem occurs it it shows heating connected wired only. I can then go and connect to wireless again and it starts turning the heating on straight away.
1. It’s a second generation

2. the problem started about six months ago.

3. There is no error code on the display and the display lightens up in Orange showing that heat is requested but the radiators don’t come on.

4. no power outages

5. the thermostat is used for heating only

6. The nest thermostat and was installed about eight years ago.

the thermostat is used for heating only
