Thermostat won’t connect to WiFi

Hello there, I moved into a new place and the device wasn’t showing anything on the screen. The guys came to fix it but now I can’t connect it to nest app or even google home app. When I scroll through the thermostat’s screen and choose WiFi, it loads forever and nothing pops up, I tried resetting the WiFi… nothing helps.

That sounds really frustrating. If your Nest thermostat just keeps loading when you try to open the WiFi list, it’s usually a sign the internal WiFi module isn’t responding properly. Try pulling the thermostat off its base, wait about 30 seconds, and snap it back on to force a soft reboot. If that doesn’t help, do a full factory reset from the Settings menu, then set it up again as a new device. Make sure you’re connecting to a 2.4 GHz network, not a 5 GHz one. If it still refuses to show networks after that, it’s likely a hardware fault, and you’ll need to contact Google Support to have the thermostat replaced.

Hey, I did a factory reset it still won’t connect to the app. Nothing is working. Tried 2 different phones, updating software and restarting.

Hi @Access12,

Thanks for reaching out here in the community! I understand that your Nest Thermostat has been failing to connect to the Nest or Google Home app ever since the repair visit, as trying to access the WiFi settings results in an indefinite loading screen without displaying any networks. I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue. No worries, I can definitely help you with this!

To better investigate this situation, I’d like to ask for the following information:

In the meantime, I’d suggest the following:

  • Check Proximity and Interference:

    • Confirm the thermostat is at least 12 feet away from your Wi-Fi router.
    • Reduce Interference: Look for devices like cordless phones or microwaves that might be disrupting the signal. Try moving them, or if possible, change your router's Wi-Fi channel. For reference, you can check out this article: Troubleshoot wireless interference.
  • Verify Network Visibility:
    • Verify that your other devices can see and connect to your Wi-Fi network name (SSID).
    • If your network is hidden, try manually typing the name (SSID) on the thermostat. For guided instructions, see this article: Connect Nest products to a hidden Wi-Fi network.
  • Review Router Settings:

I appreciate your input, @angelo899.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hey Jenifer,

its a nest thermostat E.

yes other devices are connected to the WiFi with no issue.

error code “TD023”

the thermostat is right above the router WiFi.

I tried manually putting the WiFi name that didn’t work.

thanks

Hi Access12,

Thank you for your reply and for sharing those important details! I appreciate you helping us to resolve this. The error code TD023 typically appears when you are trying to add the device to the app. To properly troubleshoot this, please try to connect the thermostat itself directly to the network without using the Nest app. Then, please follow these next steps:

  • Using a second phone, please create a mobile hotspot.
  • Then, try again to search for available Wi-Fi networks on the thermostat.
  • If the thermostat is able to find the mobile hotspot, please connect the device to it.

Additionally, if you can confirm that your router has the recommended network settings for Nest products, this would be really helpful to move forward with the case. If you are not familiar with your Wi-Fi router settings, you may want to contact your internet service provider (ISP) or router manufacturer for assistance with those configurations.

Please keep me updated.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
