Hi, for those of you using Google Nest thermostats, is the Google Home app still working normally and controlling the Nest device? For me i’m not able anymore to change the temp nor turning the device on/off from the app, this is happened only before couple of days… I’m living in UAE.. the app was working perfectly for the last 2 years. I did all troubleshooting including restarting my internet routers, restart the nest thermostat….etc however now i’m using everything manually

Hi there!

Thanks for posting here in the community. I'm sorry to hear that you're unable to control your Nest thermostat's temperature using the Google Home app. I'm happy to help!

To better understand the situation, I'd like to ask a couple of questions:

  • What type of Nest Thermostat do you have?
  • Does the Nest thermostat appear on the Google Home app?

In the meantime, let's check a few things:

  • Restart your phone: This can often resolve temporary software glitches.
  • Uninstall the app: If restarting your phone doesn't help, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app.
  • Double-check your sign-in: Ensure that you're signed into the correct Google account on both your phone and your Nest thermostat.
  • Update the App: Make sure you have the latest versions of the Google Home app and the Nest app installed on your device.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

Hi Melany,

Thanks for your email.

I am on a Nest Thermostat 4th Generation. I have 3 of these in my house. For a long time it has been working with no issues until a week ago now i have had these issues. I have to control manually now.

So it is showing in my google home app as usual. From the app it seems as though i am controlling the thermostat as any changes i make from the app shows that it works FROM THE APP ONLY but in reality the changes does not work or reflect on the thermostat. For example on the app i changed the temperature from 25 to 22, it shows the changes on the app but the thermostat still remains at 25 unless I manually go there and change it. This issue is on all 3 thermostats. I have done all the troubleshooting for the last 7 days and nothing is working.

I have so far:
- restarted my phone
- rebooted my wifi
- uninstalled the google home app and reinstalled it back
- rebooted all the thermostats to factory setting
- unlinked the matter and relinked it
- the app version is up to date
- i even rebooted my DB box circuit breaker for my AC system

Nothing seems to be working.

I need help please as i can’t keep controlling it manually.

I live in Dubai and saw online that another person had these same issues so I’m not sure if the glitch is location specific?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

J

Hi there,

Thanks for following up! I'm sorry to hear that you're having inconveniences reconnecting your Nest thermostat to the Google Home app. I'd be happy to help!

I appreciate all your efforts to resolve this situation. To gather more information, please provide the following:

  • What is the firmware version of your Nest thermostat?
  • Would you mind sharing a picture of your Nest thermostat device?
  • Are you experiencing the same issue with your other thermostats? If so, please provide me with the specific models of the other thermostat devices.
  • Can you check if the thermostat is still connected to the WiFi network?

Since you mentioned performing a factory reset, please confirm if you removed the thermostat from the Google Home app after the reset process.

If the thermostat is still working manually without the Google Home app, please try disconnecting it from the app by going to SettingsAccountDisconnect. For reference, you can check out this article: Restart or reset a Nest thermostat. Then in the Google Home app, follow these steps:

  • If you've already removed the thermostat from the app, your thermostat screen will show "No Wi-Fi."
  • Press the display and enter the setup code from the alert. Note: You can also go to SettingsAccount > Set up code.
  • Add a new device in your Google Home app and scan the QR code displayed on your thermostat.

Additionally, if you have a case number, it would be very helpful if you shared it for further assistance.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hello!

I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience caused by your Nest thermostat. Let's troubleshoot based on the following steps:

  • Check your Wi-Fi router or access point settings: Restrictive firewall security or parental controls can sometimes block communication with Nest servers. Refer to your router's manual or contact your internet service provider for assistance.
  • Confirm that the account on your phone matches the one linked to the device.
  • Try using the Nest app instead of the Google Home app.
  • Reboot the Nest Thermostat Bridge.
  • If using a Google speaker or display:
    • Try using voice commands to control the thermostat.
    • Check the operating system version of your device.
    • Verify that your assisting device is listed in the Google Home app.

If after these steps the issue persists, please let me know, and we will explore further troubleshooting options.

Regards,

Catheryn
